High Physical Support Group Home
Images and all text notes from your selected SDA + Housing type in the My Home Space tool are provided here. You should also explore these within the 3D virtual tour environment, when considering their impact on the design and experience of supported housing.
High physical support housing has been designed to incorporate a high level of physical access provision for people with significant physical impairment and requiring very high levels of support. Housing should be built to Livable Housing Australia ‘Platinum’ level. External doors and external outdoor private areas should be accessible by wheelchair. Bathroom vanity/hand basins should be accessible in seated or standing position. Power supply should be provided to doors and windows (e.g. for blinds), for retrofit of automation as necessary. Consideration must be given to whether it is appropriate for the kitchen sink, cooktop, meal preparation bench area and key appliances (dishwasher, oven, microwave oven, laundry appliances) to be accessible in seated or standing position. Structural provision should be made for ceiling hoists and the dwelling should be assistive technology ready. Heating/cooling and household communication technology (e.g. video or intercom systems) should be supplied, appropriate for the needs of residents. Emergency power solutions should be provided to cater for power outage, where the welfare of participants is at risk(1).
Group homes are detached low-rise dwellings with garden or courtyard areas. They have similar features to the NDIS definition of a home; however, Group Homes are distinguished from other houses by the larger number of residents (four or five long term residents)(2).
